The Review

New Review Wednesday – 2021 | Episode #5 | Farmer and the Felon | Cherry AK

Set The Captives Free

First off – you can’t do a review of a Farmer and the Felon Cannabis Co herb without mentioning the Last Prisoner Project. So let’s start there…

Over 40,000 non-violent Drug War prisoners are still behind bars – these are fellow cannabis lovers, users, growers, dealers and other swept up in the madness that has been the War on Drugs. Many people in the newly legal states like Colorado, California, Oregon, Washington (and others) are now making a living doing what landed these unfortunate souls in the Big House. And because our criminal justice system is inherently racist, the vast number of people languishing behind bars are persons of color. This must change!

Last Prisoner Project is being proactive and seeking justice for these POWs of the drug war. They have succeeded in getting releases for people who have been serving ridiculously long sentences, worked towards providing redress for the wrongs these people have suffered, and using the power of lobbying to bring about legislative changes to a heartless system.

As you might have guessed, I wholeheartedly support this cause, and encourage everyone to check out the Last Prisoner Project!

Smoke and make a change – Farmer and the Felon supports this great cause and when you buy their products you help support this cause too! A win-win for everyone!

Cherry AK

But we’re not here just to talk about social justice, we want to smoke some quality herb as well, so let me tell you what I have for you this week. I picked up this bag of socially conscious herb at Desert’s Finest in Desert Hot Springs – that’s near Palm Springs for those of you from out of town. The herb cost $45 for an eighth, with a percentage of that going to the Last Prisoner Project!

Cherry AK is also known as Cherry AK-47 and is part of the AK-47 family of herb. Cherry AK is a phenotype of AK-47 that tends to have a reddish or rusty hue and a cherry aroma. AK-47 is a classic strain that has been around quite a while, and is a cross of Colombian, Mexican, Thai, and Afghani varieties. The Cherry phenotype is considered by some to be a special branch of the AK-47 family, and is appreciated by those that can find it for its strong cherry aroma. When I came across this bag I was curious if it would live up to the Cherry AK-47 reputation.

The Look and Smell

When I got the orange, smell-proof bag open I was immediately hit with a whiff of sweetness and gassy diesel… and there was that cherry aroma that this strain is known for! This was a real, natural cherry aroma, not an artificial cherry smell or a cherry punch smell, but like a bowl of ripe, sweet cherries – and then the gassy diesel aroma combined with the cherry to create a skunky combination. To me, that’s heaven.

I poured the nugs out on the tray and they rolled out like little rocks. Solid, dense, chunky smalls and littles that gave off a dank, ripe, skunky aroma.

At first I was afraid the buds were dry, but that didn’t turn out to be the case. The cure on the dark green and reddish-hued nugs was very good. The nugs were leaning a little to the dry side of perfect, but cut up beautifully.

As I’ve mentioned before, when I cut up a nug, I’m looking to see if it slices through into little chunks of herb or does it crumble to dust on the tray. The feel I’m looking for is like cutting through fine, semi-soft cheese – like a really nice Gouda cheese.

The Taste and Feel

The smoke from the Cherry AK was smooth and thick… but when I took in just a bit too much – coughing ensued. Every time! The taste of the smoke was delicious – the first taste was sweet like the air of a candy shop, followed by a deeply earthy and gassy flavor that ended with a pine aftertaste. The flavor checked off all the right boxes – yum!

I took several hits and wasn’t really feeling anything at first – and then my face started to feel like it was melting…

At least I thought it was melting… because it felt like different parts of my face – and my body – felt heavier than other parts, and were sliding downward. For instance – my cheeks felt heavy, like gravity had increased, while my forehead felt like normal gravity… does that make sense? Well, the melting continued for several minutes until a strong, over-caffeinated Sativa-like buzz kicked in. My body got a buzzy vibration like I’d had a few too many espressos and I forgot all about the face-melting effects.

The Sativa buzz continued for a little bit, and then I was hit with a wall of stoniness! Heavy, Indica stoniness… very comfortable, but it drove out the Sativa buzz. For a bit. Then the Sativa-like buzz came back and then the stony vibe… for about ten to fifteen minutes I didn’t know if I was coming or going – a serious whirlwind of effects that finally settled down and left me in a pleasantly stony place with a good amount of body comfort.

The effects didn’t last too long and within the hour I was re-upping on a few more hits…

The Wrap Up

I will point out that the crazy whirlwind of effects did not revisit me the next time I smoked… and over the course of smoking the eighth it turned into a nice Indica-kind of smoker, even though this strain is considered a Sativa-dominant hybrid.

I will note that the THC level of this one was 23.89%, but it didn’t really feel that powerful after the first time I smoked it… more of a mellow, stony buzz after my body got used to it. The gassy, skunky cherry aroma makes this a really great strain and it carries over to the flavor… I wish the nugs had been a little bigger. But the eighth did weigh out at 3.57 grams, which is very healthy – and that’s 3.57 grams of delightful herb!

Very good herb, a great cause – a win-win situation… I’m gonna recommend this one with a solid thumbs up!

Until later, best of health.
